Does Lawn Care Actually Increase Home Value? The Data Says Yes — a Lot
· 4 min read · Boss Mowing crew

The 267% number
The National Association of Realtors' Remodeling Impact Report on outdoor features — produced with the National Association of Landscape Professionals — compared what homeowners spend on outdoor projects against what those projects return at sale. Standard lawn care service topped the entire list, recovering an estimated 267% of its cost. Not 26.7% — two hundred sixty-seven percent. General landscape maintenance and tree care each recovered 100%.
Why the return is so outsized
Lawn care is cheap relative to what it changes. A kitchen remodel costs tens of thousands and buyers may hate your tile; a season of professional mowing and treatments costs a fraction of that and improves the single thing every buyer sees first, in photos and from the curb. In the same NAR research, 92% of Realtors said they recommend sellers improve curb appeal before listing — and lawn maintenance is their most common specific recommendation.
It's not just at sale time
The report also tracks what it calls a Joy Score — how happy owners are with a project after it's done. Outdoor projects consistently score near the top. You live in the yard for years before you ever sell it; the resale bump is the bonus, not the point.
The Ponca City math
On a typical Ponca City lawn, a full season of bi-weekly mowing runs in the low four figures. Against the NAR recovery numbers — and against what an unkempt yard quietly subtracts from a listing — it's one of the few home expenses that's simultaneously a luxury and an investment.
